I have had some problems with my Onkyo TX-NR818 and had to send it for repairs. I heard about other people having problems with their HDMI boards but I didn’t think I would experience this as well. Anyway, I was hoping these problems with Onkyo receivers were over after what happened a few years back but I guess I was wrong…

I also think they are still trying to reduce costs and people will get certain problems even on newer models from Onkyo. I mean, just imagine how much money they’ve lost since the scandal started with all the free repairs and stuff.
I wouldn’t know for sure if Onkyo was still up to their old practices but I hope they aren’t. They were a good brand once. Now, they sell units because they are usually priced lower than their competition (not in all cases of course). Their cheaper models do have issues from what I’ve seen and I for one wouldn’t buy from them if my budget was limited. I would rather put $100 more and get a Sony or a Yamaha.

Had issues with my Onkyo TX-RZ3100 after just 2-3 months of usage. Had to reset the receiver every time because of the HDMI board issues. Talked more about it here:
My device is still in service right now and I’ll hopefully get it back soon. Anyway, not sure I will ever buy from them again.

I know friends who own Onkyo receivers and I’ve never once heard them say something bad about them. That doesn’t mean issues don’t happen but I don’t think this only happens to Onkyo. Aren’t other brands having problems from time to time? Not defending Onkyo here. I’m not even a fan.
