Marantz SR8012

If you’re in the mood for the best of the best, well almost the best of the best, then the feature-packed Marantz SR8012 flagship AV receiver is the one you will want to keep firmly in your eyes.

Immaculately designed, and rich in functionality, the SR 8012 offers a 11.2-channel amplifier with eight HDMI inputs, HEOS wireless multiroom support, as well as network streaming. Throw in support for Dolby Atmos up to a 7.1.4 configuration, and you’re cooking with gas.

And that’s not evening bringing the DTS:X and Auro 3D surround sound formats into the mix.

This 11-channel expansion to the Marantz 2017 AV receiver lineup sits above models like SR6012 and SR7012, and offer not only more channels than its 9-channel siblings, but also more horsepower.

The amp claims an impressive power output of 205 watts per channel.

All this sublime performance is housed in a copper chassis design that is also found in Reference Series hi-fi range from the company. Marantz actually says that it has made the exterior extra rigid to reduce vibrations in this AV amp.

In terms of connectivity, the SR8012 offers eight HDMI inputs and three outputs that have full support for 4K and HDR, including Hybrid Log Gamma and Dolby Vision passthrough. There are also plans for eARC, though the Enhanced Audio Return Channel will be supported via a future firmware update.

There’s plenty to like here for audiophiles, too.

This versatile amp is downright excellent for music playback as well, thanks to its support for FLAC, WAV and ALAC files up to 24bit/192kHz and DSD5.6MHz. These can not only be streamed from your network, but also played using the USB port that tits on the front panel of this AV receiver.

SR8012 also has AirPlay and Bluetooth onboard.

And to top it all off, it is one of the first AV receivers to support Amazon Alexa voice control, to go with HEOS wireless multiroom integration.

All this excellence does not come cheap, however. Expect to part ways with $3,000 to get this much power in your room. If you do, however, this beast of an AV receiver is sure to last you a while, thanks to its impressive feature set, and downright excellent design.
