Subscribers to the Comcast Xfinity X1 service rejoice! The company has just announced the availability of what it calls seamless access to Netflix Ultra HD 4K programming for its Xfinity X1 platform.
This will allow customers of the TV and Internet service that have 4K capable X1 devices, the ability to browser and watch Netflix 4K movies and shows alongside other programming included with their Xfinity TV subscription.
They will gain access to the Netflix 4K library.
A library that has more than 1,200 hours of hours of original films, documentaries, specials and series, including the hit series Stranger Things, the second season of which launched last week to great critical and viewer reception.
As Brynn Lev, vice president for Comcast Cable put it:
“We are thrilled to make the popular Netflix catalog of 4K programming available to X1 customers and will continue to rapidly expand the UHD programming choices available on the platform.”
As you can imagine, access to 4K programming requires a compatible X1 device and Netflix Premium subscription — the prices of which Netflix very recently raised. But that is not deterring US subscribers, as an overwhelming majority of who are signed up for the streaming service.
Speaking of technical specifications, Netflix recommends an internet connection speed of at least 25 megabits per second to stream 4K titles.
Xfinity X1 customers will need the XG1v4 set top box.
And if they play a movie or TV show that available in 4K, the default playback will be in the 4K resolution. Comcast also revealed that said 4K content on X1 will include search and discovery with its voice remote in the future, but the media company did not specify a time frame for this.
