Oppo, continuing its history of emphasizing audio quality, has added support for decoding MQA audio to its latest flagship, the Oppo UDP-205 universal disc player.
MQA audio, as you may be aware, is a format that brings pristine audio quality.
The UDP-205, meanwhile, already includes the ESS Sabre Pro series DACs, along with dedicated XLR outputs for the best possible analog stereo sound. With this latest firmware update, the included Music app built into the player can now decade MQA audio.
According to Oppo, this is only the first step of implementing MQA support, as the company is also working on adding MQA-CD support to the player. MQA decoding via USB DAC plus the digital coaxial and digital optical inputs is also coming soon.
Jason Liao, CTO of OPPO Digital had this to say on the occasion:
“Delivering reference audio performance has always been the core feature of the OPPO UDP-205 universal player. We are thrilled to work with MQA to incorporate MQA decoding into the player… Our audiophile customers will enjoy the lifelike and engaging listening experience with the studio master sound quality provided by MQA.”
This firmware update is available now, and owners of the UDP-205 can update their 4K player using the online update function. It can also be availed from the company’s website for offline installation.
