Onkyo And Pioneer Announce FlareConnect Multiroom Platform

Multiroom

About time! Onkyo and Pioneer have announced FlareConnect, a wireless multiroom platform developed in-house, and set to become available on select products.

Select 2016 and 2017 Onkyo and Pioneer products.

FlareConnect works very much similar to other wireless multi room platforms, like FireConnect and DTS Play:Fi, and lets users play and share music from streaming services or from their own network — as long as the content is stored on a PC, laptop or NAS drive.

The technology works over dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz/5GHz), and connects between compatible Onkyo and Pioneer hi-fi components, systems and speakers.

A number of streaming services area support out the gate, including the likes of Tidal, Deezer and TuneIn. Spotify Connect will also be on board in the very near future, and support for other services could well be extended in due time.

Access is provided via the Onkyo Controller and Pioneer Remote apps.

Once a user connects, the app provides him or her with access to the multiroom functionality, allowing them the ability to group compatible products together and play music from their network or via Bluetooth or USB.

Plans are also in place to allow users to stream content from an external connected analog source, like a CD player or a turntable.

The FlareConnect firmware update is all set to begin rolling on October 30.
